Try some simple tips to get your preparation started.

#1 Syllabus Overview

Understanding the syllabus is a useful tip by analysing the previous year’s papers and guidelines. The questions are basically of class 10 level. But to solve them you should be good at managing your time as they require ample amount of logical thinking. This can be developed over a period of time with regular practice.

#2 Don’t focus on all the topics

If you have started preparing for the exams, start by selecting topics which you are interested in. Instead of focusing on all the topics try preparing specific topics you are comfortable in and in which you can score. This will help you save time before the exam by scanning all the question and answers from sections of your expertise and skill rather than wasting time in solving each and every section.

#3 Start Early

Start by accessing your skills to solve the paper. If you are an expert, average or need to upgrade your skills. First focus on the section where you need improvement. Starting early will help you understand the exam pattern and in turn, help you manage your preparation strategy.

#4 Practice with Mock Test Paper

The best way to evaluate is by the mock test. Prepare for CAT by practising regularly and rigorously on daily basis. Keep in mind that management institutes are looking for students who understand the basic concepts. It is advisable to try sectional mock test rather than moving straight to the full mock test. Only attempting for the mock test will not help unless you analyse your weak areas and prepare accordingly.

#5 Spend time in developing vocabulary

If you aspire to appear for CAT exam prepare yourself to invest minimum 10 hours study time daily for at least 6 months before the final exam. Improve your vocabulary by developing a habit of reading a good newspaper or at least two magazines or one novel a week.

#6 Don’t make wild guesses

Keep in mind that CAT carries negative marking. For every right answer, you get three marks and one mark is deducted for every wrong answer. Just by making wild guesses you will lose your chances to score so it is advisable to think before you answer.

Prepare well for CAT exam and get into top management institute of India.
